Marmoush survives Queiroz's final cutdown to make Egypt squad

The Egyptian football federation confirmed it's final AFCON squad on Wednesday.

Among the players who made head-coach Carlos Queiroz's final cut was current VfB Stuttgart striker Omar Marmoush.
The Pharaohs of Egypt enter AFCON 2021 coached by legendary Portuguese trainer Carlos Queiroz. The former Iranian and Colombian (not mention Real Madrid) gaffer released his final squad today. To the surprise of many, Wolfsburg striker (currently on loan at VfB Stuttgart) striker Omar Marmoush made the final cut.

The 22-year-old, thrust into the lead striker role in Swabia this season, survived the final cutbdown ahead of much more experienced attackers such as Ahmed "Kouka" Hasan and Marwan Hamdy. Marmoush has recorded two league tallies and garnered three assists in ten starts for the VfB this season.

Egypt--among the favorites too take the continental crown--begin their tournament campaign against Nigeria on Tuesday, January 11th. Other group opponents include Guinea-Biassau and Sudan. The Pharaohs hosted the last Africa Cup of Nations in 2019, but were unexpectedly eliminated in the round-of-16 by South Africa.
