Hamburger SV sporting director Michael Mutzel has opened up on the club's failed attempt to extend 20-year-old Faride Alidou's contract, which expires at the end of the season.

"On the one hand, we have to be self-critical, that's for sure. On the other hand, we were in contact with his agent weeks before his first professional appearance. It was not to be expected that Faride would explode like that," Mutzel told Bild.

"We still tried everything to extend his contract. However, we quickly realized that we couldn't and didn't want to match the numbers in question."

Accordingly, Alidou will leave HSV in the summer at the latest.

Eintracht Frankfurt are said to be leading the race for the winger's signature and could sign him this month, but the two clubs are yet to agree on a transfer fee, with HSV holding out for a transfer fee of at least €500,000, per Kicker.
