Report: Union Berlin eye Paderborn's Sven Michel as Kruse replacement

Following Sunday's shock departure of playmaker Max Kruse, Union Berlin are reportedly now looking to SC Paderborn 07 for an offensive reinforcement.

Replacing a veteran playmaker like Max Kruse shall not be easy for Berlin's Köpenick club. Jan Reinhold of German footballing magazine Kicker currently reports that die Eisernen are angling for SC Paderborn 07's Sven Michel as a potential replacement. 

The 31-year-old Freudenberg native has been with the East Westphalian's since 2016, netting 56 times for the SCP in all three German professional footballing flights. In the current campaign, he's scored 14 times and added eight assists in the 2. Bundesliga. 

In his one season with Paderborn in the top flight (2019/20), Michel scored five goals and registered two assists for Steffen Baumgart's relegated team.
