Official: Korkut sacked as Hertha coach

Hertha BSC have fired head coach Tayfun Korkut.
Tayfun Korkut has been relieved of his duties as Hertha BSC coach with immediate effect.

The sacking comes following Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach, which was Hertha's fifth straight Bundesliga loss.

“After a promising start with seven points from the first four games and a positive trend, we’ve now clearly analysed the performances and results from the nine games in the second half of the season," said Hertha managing director for sport Fredi Bobic.

Following the dismissal of Korkut, who replaced Pal Dardai in November, Hertha are now looking for a new coach again.

"We came to the conclusion that we needed another change of coach. We’re currently in the relegation zone," said Bobic.

"We’ve got eight games left to pick up the points we need to stay up. We’ll do all we can to do that and we want this decision to ensure that everybody involved knows how serious this situation is. We are hoping this fresh start can have a positive impact."

Hertha are 17th in the Bundesliga, level on points with Stuttgart, who are in the relegation play-off spot thanks to a superior goal difference.
