Bayer Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane has expressed his delight with the club's development.

Bayern München and Borussia Dortmund are widely regarded as the two biggest clubs in Germany, but they're not as far ahead of Bayer Leverkusen as they used to be, according to Seoane.

"Leverkusen are well on the way to closing the distance to Bayern and BVB. We know that both are still ahead of us, and that these clubs can be a big challenge for any player. But I feel we are in a positive development phase," Seoane told Bild.

"We want to constantly improve the team - the players feel that. To do that, we try to cultivate a style of play that suits these guys. It's our job to give players like [Florian] Wirtz, [Moussa] Diaby or [Patrik] Schick the feeling that this is the right place for them."

Leverkusen sit third in the Bundesliga, behind BVB and Bayern.
