Leverkusen confirm Wirtz has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury

Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz will be out long after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury against FC Köln.

Bayer Leverkusen have been rocked by the news that Florian Wirtz suffered a serious knee injury in today's 0-1 defeat against FC Köln.

The Bundesliga outfit have confirmed this evening that the higly-rated youngster tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Wirtz had to come off midway through the first half of today's game against Köln following a challenge from Luca Kilian.

The 18-year-old youngster has scored 10 goals and provided 14 assists in 31 games for Leverkusen this season.
