Streich tips cap to SpVgg response: "I really enjoy watching Fürth."

SC Freiburg trainer Christian Streich remained typically gracious even after his team didn't get the desired result on Saturday afternoon.

At the end of the weekend, a single solitary point against lowly SpVgg Greuther Fürth might actually end up helping Freiburg in their quest to qualify for the 2022/23 Champions' League. Hoffenheim's surprise loss to Hertha BSC allowed the Breisgauer to finish Saturday in 4th place on 45 points. The Southern Badeners may still not finish the weekend there, as RB Leipzig can overtake with a win or draw against Eintracht Frankfurt tomorrow.

Streich's men were perhaps a little too tentative against a wholly unconfident team from the start. When Fürth's meager offensive actions began to fade away, the BaWü hosts simply weren't quick enough to pounce. The SCF's own offensive penetration wasn't exactly smooth. Then there were many minor and unnecessary fouls that precluded them from getting into a groove.

The SCF trainer himself seemed to diagnose the problem aptly in his post-match interview.

"We played too uncleanly and then you don't get enough scoring chances," the gaffer said afterwards, "We have to reproach ourselves for that. I was generally satisfied with the way we played in terms of attitude and presence."

In addition to praising his team for what he thought was basically a good performance, Streich went on to praise Fürth for responding so well after their 1-6 thumping at the hands of Leipzig.

"I also have to say that I really enjoy watching Fürth," Streich added, "When you get knocked to the ground as many times as they have, and then come back after a 1-6 and try to play football like they did, I tip my hat to that. You have to recognize that."
