Record transfer: Mainz sign Aaron Martin on a permanent deal

Mainz have signed Aaron Martin on a permanent deal for a club record fee.
After Aaron Martin played his tenth competitive game for Mainz yesterday, a clause has been activated to sign the full-back on a permanent deal that runs until 2023, the club have announced.

The 21-year-old initially joined Mainz on loan from Espanyol for €3 million. According to Kicker, Mainz have paid another €6 million to sign him permanently, taking the total transfer fee up to €9 million - a club record fee for Mainz.

"The development of Aaron Martin has been as we imagined it to be. He is a quality player who immediately made the lead to be in the starting eleven. At the same time, he is a very young player with great potential, and we hope to see him develop further in the future," sporting director Rouven Schröder told Mainz's website.

The Spanish under-21 international has made 10 appearances for Mainz with two assists to his name.
