Niederlechner hails impact of fans after Augsburg beat Wolfsburg
Florian Niederlechner said Augsburg's fans played a key role in their win over Wolfsburg.
Augsburg striker Florian Niederlechner hailed the impact of the club's fans following Sunday's 3-0 victory over Wolfsburg.
Following the decision to scrap most coronavirus measures in Bavaria, Niederlechner and his teammates were playing in front of a packed WWK Arena for the first time in a long while.
"I have often said what an important factor our fans are. Without fans, an important part is simply missing. They pushed us forward right from the start," said Niederlechner.
"You can't get off to a better start than we did," he added, referring to Iago's opener, which was scored after less than a minute.
"Wolfsburg didn't play a bad game, but we were more efficient. That's how you have to perform at home in the relegation battle."
Augsburg will now prepare for a mid-week game as they look to face Mainz in a postponed game on Wednesday.
"This win should give us a lot of confidence for Wednesday. If we perform like we did today, we'll win there too," said Niederlechner.
