Super sub Petersen downs Frankfurt

Nils Petersen scored his fourth Bundesliga goal as a substitute this season, helping Freiburg to a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt away from home.
Nils Petersen came on to score the winner, as Freiburg saw off Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 away at Deutsche Bank Park in the Bundesliga on Sunday evening.

Vincenzo Grifo sent Christian Streich's troops ahead midway through the first half, finishing off a counter-attacking move.

Eintracht thought they had scored the equaliser seven minutes after the break, but Jesper Lindstrøm's goal was ruled out because the Dane was marginally offside in the build-up.

It only took the home side two more minutes to score a goal that counted, though, with Filip Kostic powering a low shot past Flekken after latching on to a pass from Jens Petter Hauge.

Just after Lindstrøm came close to giving the hosts the lead, Freiburg made it 2-1 at the other end, as second-half substitute Nils Petersen headed in a free-kick from Christian Günter with 69 minutes on the clock. It was Petersen's fifth Bundesliga goal this season and his fourth as a substitute.

Towards the end of the game, Ajdin Hrustic hit the post for the hosts before Daichi Kamada had a goal ruled out for offside.

Ultimately, it just wasn't to be for Eintracht, as Freiburg held on to their lead until the final whistle, sealing three important points in the race for European football.
