Lacroix could be out for the season with injury sustained in Wolfsburg's 6-1 defeat to Dortmund

As if losing 6-1 to Borussia Dortmund wasn't bad enough for Wolfsburg, they might now have to do without Maxence Lacroix for the rest of the 2021/22 campaign.

Maxence Lacroix could be out for the rest of the season after he was forced off with an injury just before the break in VfL Wolfsburg's embarrassing 6-1 defeat against Borussia Dortmund earlier today.

"He felt pain in his thigh. It doesn't look too good," Wolfsburg coach Florian Kohfeldt told Kicker after the game.

Xaver Schlager, who made his return from a cruciate ligament injury in February, also had to come off, but Kohfeldt allayed any fears of another serious injury to the midfielder.

"With him, everyone always flinches when he feels something in the knee, but it was probably just a knock, so I have reason to be reassured."

Naturally, the Wolfsburg coahc was far from happy with his side's performance.

"What often happens to us happened again, and today in perhaps the most blatant way. After a decent game last week, everyone gave five percent less than last week. That's simply not acceptable. Today was a catastrophe."
