Nagelsmann: "I know I can do things better"

Looking back at his first season as Bayern coach after the title-clinching win over Borussia Dortmund, Julian Nagelsmann says he "can do things better".
Bayern München coach Julian Nagelsmann was happy, but also self-critical after securing his first Bundesliga title with a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund tonight.

Even though he has managed to lead Bayern to the league title, there have been bumps in the road in Nagelsmann's first season in charge at Allianz Arena.

In particular, Bayern's 5-0 DFB-Pokal loss against Gladbach and their 1-2 aggregate defeat against Villarreal in the Champions League quarterfinal were disappointing from the German champions' perspective.

Those disappointments made it all the more important for Nagelsmann that Bayern got the result they came for today.

"It was important to get the job done today. It hasn't been an easy season for me, so I'm very happy today," Nagelsmann told reporters after the game.

"The game against Gladbach, when I was at home due to COVID-19, was extremely tough. To get eliminated from the Champions League the way we did hurt because we had big plans in the tournament.

"I know I can do things better. I will still keep my style, but adjust certain things. We'll stick to the familiar basics a bit more and reduce the new and variable things a bit.

"Next year, the pressure will be higher."
