The man whose set-piece prowess contributed perhaps more than anything else to Hertha's great relegation escape last season will snap on the skipper's armband in the coming campaign. The Bundesliga's "alte Dame" confirmed Marvin Palttenhardt as the squad's new captain on Friday. Charlottenburg native Kevin-Prince Boateng--who has signed on for one final year with his hometown club--will serve as alternate.

With the club since 2014, Plattenhardt has made a total of 205 competitive appearances for Hertha across all competitions. He's registered seven goals and chipped in an impressive 31 assists. Plattenhardt's appointment ends the two-year-reign of Belgian central defender Dedryck Boyata's captaincy. Boyata took over for Vedad Ibisevic in 2020 and may be moved before the transfer window closes.

"It's an enormous honor to be able to lead the team onto the field as captain," Plattenhardt noted in a video released by the club Friday afternoon, "And I have great support in one of the all-time-greats with Prince."
