Bayern hit Frankfurt for six in Bundesliga opener
Bayern put five first-half goals past Eintracht Frankfurt as the reigning Bundesliga champions thrashed last season's Europa League winners 6-1 in tonight's German top-flight opener.
10-time defending German champions Bayern München tore Eintracht Frankfurt apart in the first game of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, thrashing the Europa League winners 6-1 at Deutsche Park Bank tonight.
It only took Bayern five minutes to score the first goal of the new season. Joshua Kimmich tried his luck from far out, catching Kevin Trapp by surprise with a free-kick that went in at the Eintracht goalkeeper's near post.
Benjamin Pavard doubled the lead six minutes later, smashing in the follow-up after Thomas Müller's shot was blocked.
In an eventful first half, Eintracht weren't without chances at the other end, and Tuta came close to pulling one back shortly after, but the centre-back's header was stopped by the post.
Müller and Lindstrøm then missed a huge chance each before Bayern added a third through Sadio Mané, who headed in his first Bundesliga goal just shy of the half-hour mark.
Things went from bad to worse for Frankfurt, with Jamal Musiala and Serge Gnabry both joining the scoresheet to make it 5-0 before the break.
Fortunately for Frankfurt, Bayern took their foot off the gas in the second half, allowing the hosts to fire in a consolation goal, as second-half substitute Randal Kolo Muani took advantage of a huge mistake by Manuel Neuer.
But the German champions weren't finished and wrapped up the win with 83 minutes on the clock as Jamal Musiala poked the ball past Kevin Trapp to score his second goal of the evening and make it 6-1.
After their 5-3 victory over RB Leipzig in the Supercup last week, the Bavarians have now scored 11 goals in their first two competitive games of the season, proving that they have no problems finding the net without Robert Lewandowski.
