Bayer Leverkusen managing director for sport Simon Rolfes has provided an update on Florian Wirtz, who recently made his return to team training after a long injury layoff.

"Everyone can look forward to it, but of course it will still take a little while," Rolfes said at the press conference ahead of tonight's game against Atlético Madrid.

"That was a huge step for him, also in terms of feeling that he's approaching the real life of football again."

The 19-year-old wonderkid has been out since he suffered a cruciate ligament rupture back in March.

Wirtz was included in Hansi Flick's provisional squad for the World Cup and therefore still has a chance of getting called up for the tournament in Qatar.
