Stuttgart vs. Augsburg preview: Visitors looking to end winless run

Stuttgart

With Stuttgart still searching for a permanent head coach, Michael Wimmer will continue to lead the side on Saturday.

Wimmer enjoyed his opening two games as interim boss, guiding Stuttgart to consecutive victories. Bochum were comfortably dispatched by a 4-1 scoreline before they thrashed Arminia Bielefeld 6-0 in the DFB-Pokal.

However, Stuttgart were brought back down to earth last weekend when they were hammered 5-0 by Dortmund. The result leaves them in the relegation playoff place, with one point separating them from safety.

After losing away to Dortmund, Die Schwaben will be looking forward to returning to the Mercedes-Benz-Arena where they have the chance to record a third consecutive home victory in all competitions.

They will be confident that they can claim all three points after winning their last three Bundesliga home games against Augsburg.

Wimmer has the majority of his squad to choose from, although Enzo Millot and Josha Vagnoman are doubts for Saturday's contest.

Augsburg

Augsburg are currently winless in their last four games in all competitions. The visitors thought they were on their way to claiming all three points last weekend when they took a three-goal lead against RB Leipzig thanks to goals from Mergim Berisha, Ermedin Demirović and Ruben Vargas. However, an André Silva strike was followed by goals in the 89th and 90th minute, ensuring the contest ended in a 3-3 draw.

Despite picking up only two points from their last three league games, Augsburg are six points clear of their opponents. They have managed to score 11 goals in their previous five matches in all competitons, but they have struggled defensively, conceding 14 goals in that period.

After picking up nine of their 14 points from away games this season, Augsburg may be confident of recording a positive result against Stuttgart.
Team News

The visitors are without a number of players due to injury issues, including Reece Oxford, Noah Sarenren-Bazee, Tobias Strobl and Felix Uduokhai. Augsburg are also unable to call upon Robert Gumny, Niklas Dorsch and Andre Hahn, who are all sidelined. Meanwhile, Iago will serve a one-match suspension after being sent off against RB Leipzig.
