Gvardiol sent to the hospital during Freiburg game

Josko Gvardiol badly injured his face on Matchday 14 and his status for the World Cup is currently up in the air. The thing is, he wasn't even supposed to be on the pitch to begin with.

After colliding with teammate Willi Orban in the 17th minute, Josko Gvardiol was forced off with injuries to both his nose and his eye. Gvardiol wasn't even supposed to start the game, but Abdou Diallo injured his knee in warm-ups and the Croatian was suddenly in the starting 11.

It's believed that Gvardiol has, at the minimum, broken his nose. The 20-year-old was sent to the hospital mid-game to treat all of the injuries.

Marco Rose stated, "I heard he broke his nose. The eye is swollen. He looks like a boxer after the twelfth round against a tough opponent."

Gvadiol was named to Croatia's team for the World Cup, but his status for Qatar is still unclear.

Lukas Klostermann, who has luckily returned from an injury of his own, should see playing time against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
