Official: Union loan Puchacz out to Panathinaikos

FC Union Berlin confirmed another loan-out for Polish talent Tymoteusz Puchacz on Friday afternoon.
Union Berlin's Polish left-back Tymoteusz Puchacz is headed back out on loan again. Approximately one year after die Eisernen opted to send the 23-year-old over to Trabzonspor for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, Oliver Ruhnert and the FCU administrative team have found another locale to park their prospect.

Puchacz returned with the Turkish league title last summer. This year, he'll get another chance to earn some more silverware. New loan club Panathinaikos sits atop the league table. Puchacz, something of a sought-after loan commodity, was linked with no fewer than six clubs all across Europe for a spring move.

In statements accompanying the transaction, Ruhnert and the Köpenick club made clear that they did wish to retain the player. According to Jörn Petersen of Germany's Kicker magazine Puchacz wasn't amendable to being used as a wingback in Urs Fischer's regular tactical system.

It was such that he only made three league appearances this season. Julian Ryerson, Niko Gießelmann, and Christopher Trimmel thus stand above him on the depth chart. In a statement accompanying the transaction, Ruhnert emphasized that Union hoped to retain the player for future use.

"Tymoteusz is a player who urgently needs playing time," Ruhnert noted, "He has already proven his ability to us, and we want to give him the opportunity to prove himself now again in a strong team. Therefore, we have decided together that a loan currently makes sense for both sides. We wish him every success in Athens and hope that he will continue to develop there."
