Sky Report: Gil Dias set to join Stuttgart after Haraguchi transfer falls through

Sky Germany reports that a new injury to Hungarian support attacker Andras Schäfer has left 1. FC Union Berlin unwilling to part company with Genki Haraguchi.

As a result, VfB Stuttgart are pursuing the finalization of a deal to bring Portuguese attacker Gil Dias to the BaWü capital.
Attempts to bring Japanese buttressing attacker Genki Haraguchi to Stuttgart were apparently quite sincere and far along. Union Berlin felt comfortable allowing the Japanese international to depart after Hungarian Andras Schäfer made his comeback from injury. Schäfer did indeed make his comeback for Union against Hertha BSC this weekend in the "Berliner Stadtderby", but had to be subbed off at the half due to new injury concerns.

As a result, Union are now reluctant to part company with Haraguchi and VfB Stuttgart are pursuing their "back-up plan". Portuguese journeyman Gild Dias is, according to Sky Germany, en route to Swabia to complete a medical. Stuttgart and Dias' current club of Benfica Lisbon are said to be in agreement on a transfer.

Whether the 26-year-old will join the Württembergers on loan or outright remains unclear. Stuttgart presumably have a little extra cash to spend after completing the sale of Alexis Tibidi on Saturday. Naouirou Ahamada's switch to Crystal Palace - a sale that could net Stuttgart many millions - also appears to be on.

Not all sources agree that the Haraguchi purchase is off the table completely. Germany's Kicker Magazine still reports that the deal might happen, though the status is only mentioned in passing on the latest update to the magazine's website.
