Scally and Thuram carrying injuries ahead of Bayern fixture

As they seek to turn their fortunes in the new calendar year around, Borussia Mönchengladbach have concerns over the fitness of two key players ahead of Saturday's crucial fixture against the German record champions.

Borussia Mönchengladbach trainer Daniel Farke revealed that both lead striker Marcus Thuram and starting right fullback Joe Scally had to miss out on Wednesday squad training session due to muscular issues. According to information disseminated by the club, the two players each have calf-related problems.

"We have to wait and see with Marcus and over the next few days," Farke is quoted as saying on the club's website, "It's going to be really tight for both of them insofar as the game on Saturday is concerned."

The European dream appears to be slipping away from the foals after they've lost three of their five league fixtures since play resumed late last night. The club currently sits in 10th place on 26 points in the table. An unexpected upset loss to relegation-threatened Hertha BSC on Sunday cast serious doubts on the current quality of Farke's side.

Striker Thuram still hasn't managed to get off the mark in the new calendar year, failing to net a goal in his last four starts. Farke still has little-to-no options at the center-forward position.

Scally - one semi-bright-spot on a squad whose general trajectory has been downward - would be sorely missed against a Bayern left possessing threats such as Alphonso Davies, Kingsley Coman, and even the newly-acquired Joao Cancelo on the left.
