Freiburg pegged back as Onisiwo delivers for Mainz
The final matchup of Bundesliga Matchday 25 was the meeting of Mainz and Freiburg. Both teams had been in a rich vein of form going undefeated in their previous five games until this point.
Almost fittingly, it would be a share of the spoils in the end as neither couldn’t be separated.
While Ritsu Dōan punished a rare Mainz mistake and looked to have sealed a win for the Breisgau-elf, a late 96th minute Onisiwo goal levelled matters at 1-1.

Flekken was given a fright after the half hour mark – his wayward clearance was blocked by Jae-Sung Lee. The Dutch shot-stopper was able to redeem himself moments after as he parried away a menacing Ingvartsen freekick. It would remain deadlocked as the sides entered the dressing rooms.
Freiburg came out vastly improved from their first-half showing. It would be a defensive mix up of mass proportions that allowed Doan to pounce for 1-0. Zentner and Fernandes on different wavelengths as the Japanese winger capitalised to bag his second goal in as many games.
Bo Svensson threw on the cavalry in a bid to change the outcome of the match. Substitute Nelson Weiper came closest when he failed to latch onto Ajorque’s through ball. The youngster had another bite at the goal-shaped cherry moments later, but a relieved Flekken was on hand to gather. Ultimately, Freiburg hearts would be dashed in the 6th minute of added time – a delightful ball from the unlikely towering figure of Ajorque found Onisiwo who tapped home to secure a point for the hosts.
