Brentford expected to make offer for Flekken

Brentford are understood to be keeping tabs on Freiburg goalkeeper Mark Flekken, with 'the Bees' expected to make a bid for the 29-year-old this summer.

Kicker reports that Brentford FC have Mark Flekken on their wish list and are likely to make a move for the Freiburg goalkeeper this summer.

Brentford's current first-choice goalkeeper, David Raya, is said to be highly-rated by Tottenham, who could bring him in to replace the aging Hugo Lloris.

Should Raya leave Brentford, Flekken is said to be their preferred replacement. However, it's unclear whether the English Premier League club would be attractive enough for the Dutchman.

While the eighth-placed Bees have been impressive this season, Freiburg's chances of playing in Europe next season are arguably higher, with Christian Streich's side currently sitting fourth in the Bundesliga.

However, Flekken could be tempted by the prospect of playing in the Premier League and the higher wages that Brentford can offer.

In any case, Freiburg want the 29-year-old to make a decision before the last day of the Bundesliga season.

"We don't want it to go into May. We would like to have clarity from Mark before then and thus planning security," Freiburg sporting director Klemens Hartenbach told Kicker.

According to Kicker, Flekken has a release clause of €13 million, which becomes active in the summer of 2024.
