Virkus walks back full endorsement of Farke

In an interview with Westphalia's "Rheinische Post", Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has rolled back a full endorsement of trainer Daniel Farke for next season.
Amid loud calls from a wholly dissatisfied fan-base, Borussia Mönchengladbach director Roland Virkus has thus far stuck to his guns and insisted that the club plans to enter next season with current trainer Daniel Farke at the helm. Rumors began to surface this weekend that the club were actually preparing to dismiss Farke and replace him with U-23 head coach Eugen Polanski.

Speaking to the Sky microphones ahead of kickoff in Saturday evening's "Top Spiel" against Dortmund, Virkus merely noted that he "did not wish to comment on rumors". As the reports continued to surface and the Gladbach fan-base became increasingly vocal in their disappointment with Farke, however, Virkus was forced to issue comments with more substance.

The nature of Gladbach's defeat also meant that Virkus could not keep silent for long. Contacted for comment by the "Rheinische Post" newspaper, Virkus confirmed that the foals "planned to conclude the current season with the current coach." After that, Virkus promised full assessments for everyone.

Virkus' words sounded suspiciously like those spoken about Adi Hütter near the end of last season. It was later confirmed, after the final matchday, that Hütter would be vacating his post. Virkus - in a nod to fans furious with rudderless mid-table mediocrity for three consecutive springs - that everything and everyone would be assessed.

"We will sit down together and analyze everything, which of course includes the coach," Virkus said, "From the results of this analysis, we will draw our conclusions. It does not focus only on the coach, it is about everything. That's why I didn't want to comment on rumors on Saturday and Sunday."
