Wolfsburg updates: VfL in agreement with two transfer targets, Czech fullback also in club's sights
Thomas Hiete of Germany's preeminent footballing publication reports that VfL Wolfsburg have reached verbal agreements with two transfer targets, Vaclav Cerny and Tiago Tomas.
In an article appearing on Kicker Magazine's website today, Hiete also reports that the club's search for a new left-back now leads to the Czech Republic.
VfL Wolfsburg have been linked with Czech winger Vaclav Cerny - presently of Erdevisie side FC Twente - for some weeks. The latest on the club's pursuit of one of the Dutch league's leading scorers, according to Thomas Hiete of Germany's leading footballing publication, is that the 25-year-old has reached an agreement on a new contract with Germany's green company team good through 2027. All that remains is for the two clubs to negotiate a transfer fee.
In an article appearing on Kicker Magazine's website today, Hiete also reports that the club's search for a new left-back now leads to the Czech Republic.
Cerny scored 15 goals and added a further 13 assists in 41 appearances for Twente across all competitions this past season. The nine-times-capped Czech international maintains an estimated market worth of €4 million in the latest transfermarkt listings. Dutch sources too report that Cerny's move to Germany is in the final stages of being concluded. Holland's Telegraaf newspaper speaks of a transfer fee in the €7 million range. Hiete writes that an announcement should come soon.
Cerny could potentially play alongside on of his Czech compatriots next season. Hiete claims that Wolfsburg's active search for some additional assistance at the left-back position has led them to 22-year-old Slavia Prague fullback David Jurasek. The €3 million-valued player racked up 15 scorer points in the Czech domestic league last season and recently made his debut for the senior men's national team.
Following the recent departures of Jerome Roussillon (Union Berlin) and Paulo Otavio (Al-Saad in Qatar), Wolfsburg will need at least one more natural left-back to serve alongside Nicolas Cozza on the roster. Micky van de Ven and Kevin Paredes can play the position, but tend to thrive more in their natural roles of center-halve and winger, respectively.
In an article appearing on Kicker Magazine's website, Hiete supplies an update on the potential move of former VfB Stuttgart winger Tiago Tomas as well. The Portuguese attacker has been linked with a switch to the northern Autostadt following the expiration of his extended loan in Swabia. Hiete reports that the 20-year-old very much wants to join Wolfsburg and has even committed verbally.
The transfer fee remains a problem. Tomas' parent club want upwards of €13 to €15 million for the young prospect. Wolfsburg are currently in negotiations with Sporting CP for a price approximately half that number. Tomas - the scorer of seven Bundesliga goals during his 18-month-stint in Germany - is valued as a €7 million player.
