Official: Stuttgart buy Maglica back from St. Gallen

VfB Stuttgart confirmed on Thursday afternoon that they had exercised the buyback option on Croatian center back Matej Maglica of Switzerland's FC St. Gallen. 
Rumors surfacing in late April regarding a buyback option for former VfB Stuttgart center-half Matej Maglica have proven correct. On late Thursday afternoon, the Baden-Württemberg capital city side confirmed that they had re-acquired their former developmental prospect from the Swiss side he was initially loaned to and eventually sold to last summer.

The 24-year-old Croatian youth international made just one appearance for the VfB senior team; playing just five minutes as a sub in November of 2021. Maximilian Schmidt of Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that the Swabians have paid approximately €450,000 to buy the defender back. Schmidt further notes that Maglica, despite receiving a new contract good through 2025, might still be loaned out.

Maglica has likely nevertheless earned himself a look in Sebastian Hoeneß' training camp this summer. During his cumulative time with FC St. Gallen in the Swiss Super League, the towering center back scored four goals and registered an assist in 52 appearances across all competitions. He also racked up an impressive 27 starts whilst raising his estimated market worth to €1 million.
