Werder boss gives update on Füllkrug talks

Clemens Fritz says Werder Bremen remain in good talks with Niclas Füllkrug over the striker's future.
Werder Bremen's head of first team football Clemens Fritz has given an update on the club's talks with Niclas Füllkrug, saying he hopes to have clarity on the striker's future soon.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from Werder after finishing as the Bundesliga's joint top scorer last season with 16 goals.

However, Werder remain hopeful that he will stay, with a possible contract extension beyond 2025 on better terms reportedly being discussed.

"We are in good talks, we will continue them," Clemens Fritz told Kicker about a possible contract extension:

"We have said that we want to keep Füllkrug - that is still the case."

According to Fritz, there is no deadline for a possible sale, but the Weser club would like to know where they stand as soon as possible.

"Of course it would be good for all parties to have clarity early on," the 42-year-old emphasized.

"We'll have to see what happens in the next few weeks".
