Leverkusen confirm Boniface capture

Bayer 04 Leverkusen officially confirmed the signing of Union Saint-Gilloise striker Victor Boniface on Sunday evening. 
His medical passed earlier in the day, Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has now officially signed on with Germany's red company team. The Union SG striker had been on the radar of many a Bundesliga club after featuring prominently for his Belgian side in four 2022/23 Europa fixtures against Germany's 1. FC Union Berlin and two against Bayer. The 22-year-old was rumored to be in the sights of both the German Union, Eintracht Frankfurt, and RB Leipzig.

Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that the Köpenickers have paid the Belgian Union a base transfer fee of some €16 million that may rise as high as €20 million with performance bonuses. The new Bayer attackers contract with in Leverkusen runs through the end of the 2027/28 campaign. Boniface scored a most impressive 22 goals 55 appearances across all competitions for his former club last year.

"We had Victor Boniface on our radar for quite some time," B04 managing director Simon Rolfes remarked in a club statement accompanying the signing, "Victor is an ever very present, difficult to play against center-forward, who poses a challenge to every defender with his physicality alone. In addition, he is also fast and technically adept."

"I see this as special opportunity that I really wanted to take advantage of," the player himself added, "I've experienced the atmosphere here in the stadium myself, I could already sense the capacities this club has back then."
