Rather surprisingly without prospects for VfL Bochum last season, Gerrit Holtmann will reportedly head to the Turkish Süper Lig for the upcoming campaign. The Bremen-native has played in the country of his birth since turning professional in 2015. Holtmann has netted 20 goals in 179 appearances in the top two German footballing divisions and domestic club whilst representing Eintracht Braunschweig, FSV Mainz 05, SC Paderborn 07, and his current club.

After playing a significant role in helping VfL Bochum remain in the top flight during the 2021/22 campaign, Holtmann was signed to a lucrative contract extension last summer by the Revierklub. The deal came after the now 28-year-old had just completed the most prolific season of is professional career, scoring five goals and notching seven assists in 33 appearances in all competitions. In the process, Holtmann pushed his estimated market worth up to a career high of €4.5 million.

That figure has been cut in half following a lackluster season during which Holtmann made just 26 appearances, mostly in relief, for new VfL trainer Thomas Letsch. The former German youth international scored only one goal and registered just two assists in Germany's domestic league and cup. Germany's "Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung" initially reporting on negotiations for a loan deal yesterday. The "Reviersport" newspaper then later reported that Holtmann is set to join former Dortmund and Bremen star Nuri Sahin at Antalyaspor in Turkey.
