Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that Mainz, after confirming Burgzorg's departure, should have a new addition to unveil soon. The Rheinhessen notoriously risked entering the season without a direct back-up for left-back Anthony Caci. Kicker reports that Austrian fullback Philipp Mwene has been tapped as the solution.
Mwene left for PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer after spending three seasons with Mainz in the summer of 2021. Mainz themselves acquired Mwene on a free from Pfälzer rivals 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 2018. This time, the German footballing publication reports, Mainz are preparing to shell out a transfer fee of €1-2 million for the 29-year-old.
