No German footballing outlets are currently disputing earlier reports that die Eisernen have paid Monaco a base transfer fee of around €4.5 million plus bonuses for the Marktoberdorf-native. Volland had fallen into disuse with his French club, making just 17 appearances in Ligue 1 last season. He did net three goals.
"I grew up in the Bundesliga and never lost sight of it," Volland noted in a club statement, "The fact that I now continue to get the chance to play at the highest level here at Union makes me very happy."
"We sensed in each of the conversations with Kevin how much he wanted to return to Germany and the Bundesliga," FCU managing director Oliver Ruhnert added, "He has proven his qualities in front of goal both nationally and internationally over all these years."
