WAZ Report: Hwang and van Hooijdonk leading names in Wolfsburg striker search
With Lukas Nmecha once again injured, VfL Wolfsburg appear set to sign another striker before the transfer window closes.
Some familiar German footballing names are cropping up in the rumor mills. While links to some former Bundesliga players seem rather unsubstantiated, the local Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung does note with some reliability that former Hamburger SV and RB Leipzig attacker Hee-Chan Hwang is among the names being considered.
The 53-times-capped South Korean international moved to Wolves permanently last summer following a successful loan-stint, yet had a less productive year with the Premiership outfit last year. Hwang is off to a good start in the young EPL season, however, meaning that Wolves may be reluctant to part with him. A loan could still constitute a possibility.
Another player the WAZ brings into the mix is that of Dutch striker Sydney van Hooijdonk. The 23-year-old's Serie A club FC Bologna may be interested in loaning him out for the second consecutive year following a successful stint in his native Holland. Van Hooijdonk scored 26 goals in 54 appearances for Sportclub Heerenveen during an extended loan-stint.
Other names the WAZ lists include Rafa Mir from (FC Sevilla), Patson Daka (Leicester City), and Anastasios Douvikas (FC Utrecht). More sensational links with See Werder Bremen's Niclas Füllkrug and even former Eintracht Frankfurt assist-meister Filip Kostic appear to have nothing to them.
