Matthäus on Flick: "I doubt you can keep him after this"
Lothar Matthäus says he doesn't know if Hansi Flick is the right man for the job as Germany coach following tonight's defeat to Japan, which was another major setback for an already struggling team.
Former Germany international Lothar Matthäus says he doesn't know if Hansi Flick can keep his job as Germany coach after tonight's 1-4 loss to Japan.
Questions about Flick are mounting as Germany's embarrassing exit from the group stage of the World Cup has been followed by a poor run of form.
"There's not much left in Hansi Flick's favor. I doubt you can keep him after this," Matthäus told RTL after tonight's defeat.
"The worst thing is that the result is okay. The Japanese still had three or four good chances when they were alone in front of ter Stegen.
"I have the feeling that the team is not a unit, at least you don't see it on the pitch. It's not the kind of unit you expect to play a good European Championship."
