Bayern make light work of misfiring Freiburg

Having come from behind to win in Copenhagen midweek, Bayern welcomed Freiburg to the Allianz Arena today. The visitors had European action to contend with last Thursday, coming out on the wrong side of West Ham. Tomas Tuchel’s side would inflict further misery on the Breisgauers who succumbed to a 3-0 defeat.

Bayern opened the scoring in most unusual fashion this afternoon. Kingsley Coman’s 13th minute cross sailed in off the upright to beat a stunned Atubolu. The host’s attempts on goal started to rack up and Kane fizzed wide by mere inches at the quarter point of the match.

But the Englishman would try his hand at providing in the following attack and it would pay off greatly. A central ball placed ahead of the six-yard box offered Leroy Sane a tap in for 2-0. The tricky German winger appeared to double his personal tally when he hit the net before the break. However, VAR would intervene and nip celebrations in the bud with an offside call.

Such was Bayern’s dominance, Streich opted to call youngster Rohl ashore for Philipp. Ultimately, the dominance failed to materialise in another goal for the hosts as the game’s final third neared. Streich’s side still without a registered shot on target at this point. Coman the closest of anyone to altering the scoreboard once more.

Musiala, who many expected to start, replaced Muller for the final 15 minutes. Harry Kane departed after a goalless outing but Die Rekordmeister’s super sub of late Mathys Tel entered. Atubolu deserved credit for repelling Goretzka’s strike from range. A fingertip save onto the right post prevented a third Bayern goal albeit momentarily. The subsequent effort from Coman ricocheted off Lienhart and to the net for 3-0.
