Bayern consider censure of Mazraoui following social media post

FC Bayern München have announced that they will have "detailed discussions" over the case of fullback Noussair Mazraoui following the Moroccan international's pro-Palestinian social media post yesterday.

The club has promised that announcement over a potential suspension, fine, or contractual penalty will come today.
After FSV Mainz 05 announced an indefinite suspension for attacker Anwar El Ghazi on Tuesday, German record champions FC Bayern München may be prepared to follow suit in the case of right-back Noussair Mazraoui. The 25-year-old too posted a pro-Palestinian post to his instagram feed in which the terrorist group Hamas was wished victory over Israel in the current Middle East conflict and a controversial Koranic Sura was quoted.

Mazraoui did explicitly attempt to distance himself from violence and terror in a subsequent post, but may still face suspension from his German club after planned "detailed discussions" on Wednesday. In addition to Mazaroui and El Ghazi, Tunisian Aïssa Laïdouni (1. FC Union Berlin) and German-Albanian Klas Gjasula (SV Darmstadt 98) have faced criticism over their social media posts pertaining to the conflict.

Bayern - like many other German Bundesliga clubs including Mainz - has Jewish administrative roots following post-war reorganization. Recently signed Bayern back-up keeper Daniel Peretz is also an Israeli youth international. In an article appearing on the website of Germany's Kicker Magazine, Mannheim-based trade-law professor Dr. Philipp Fischinger (quoted by German footballing journalist Benni Hofmann) suggests the club may be leaning towards a suspension.

"Under certain circumstances," Dr. Fischinger is quoted as saying with specific reference to Peretz, "Mazraoui's post just jeopardize labor relations at FC Bayern. A warning, a contractual penalty or an indefinite leave-of-absence could be considered. An immediate dismissal [termination of contract] doesn't seem possible."
