Stuttgart confirm Guirassy will miss "several weeks"

In what is  most unfortunate news for both VfB Stuttgart and German football in general, it was confirmed by the striker's German club on Sunday that the Bundesliga's leading goal-scorer will out for several weeks with a thigh injury.
Subbed off at the half-hour mark during yesterday's 3-0 win over 1. FC Union Berlin. initial reports from VfB Stuttgart's camp last evening labelled Serhou Guirassy's a "minor injury in the left rear-thigh". VfB trainer Sebastian Hoeneß did note that further tests would be scheduled for Sunday. Without going into too great detail, the Württemberg-based club noted that Guirassy would, in fact, be out of action for "several weeks" in a Sunday statement.

Guirassy managed to score his 14th league goal of the young 2023/24 campaign before being subbed off yesterday. The Guinean international's previous season was marred by injury problems. He scored 11 goals in 22 league appearances for Stuttgart last year. Guirassy, even if fit, will already be out of action for several fixtures during the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

"Serhou's loss is bitter for him personally and for us as a team," VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß was quoted as saying in the club's statement on Sunday, "Everyone has seen what outstanding form Serhou has been in recently. We must and will compensate for his absence as best we can."

The player almost surely tasked with starting in place of Guirassy will be German forward Deniz Undav. The Brighton & Hove Albion loanee also netted a goal yesterday, bringing his total number of tallies to three in five relief appearances. Attacking flanker Silas - who also scored yesterday - has also netted three goals thus far this year.
