Following yesterday's defeat to 2. Bundesliga side Hertha BSC in the second round of Germany's domestic cup, FSV Mainz 05 trainer Bo Svensson and the club's front office have apparently mutually agreed to part company. This is presently being reported by both German broadcaster Sport1 and Mainz's Allgemein Zeitung.

Svensson's Rheinhessen have gotten off to an atrocious start to the current league campaign, still awaiting their first win after nine match-days. The club from the Pfälzer capital currently sits in last place in the Bundesliga table with six losses and three draws. Mainz - along with VfL Bochum - are still seeking their first win of the season.

The two German press sources report that sporting director Martin Schmidt will take over as coach of the team on an interim basis until a permanent replacement can be found. Svensson himself was appointed trainer of the team in January 2021 after Jan-Mortiz Lichte led the relegation-threatened side for a long interim spell of 12 league fixtures after the sacking of Achim Beierlorzer.
