Bayern Munich vs. Heidenheim preview: Can FCH keep it close?

Heidenheim travel to Munich in hopes of scrapping out a result against in-form Harry Kane and the record champions, who have yet to lose a league match this season.

Bayern Munich

After destroying Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion, Bayern defeated Galatasaray with two late Harry Kane goals to advance to the Champions League knockouts. They are also within striking distance in league play behind Leverkusen, who sit just two points ahead.

It’s been the Kane show of late, as the world-class no. 9 has put away nine goals in his last four games. This weekend, Bayern will be hoping to emulate what they did to the last newly-promoted team they faced, having beaten Darmstadt 8-0 on Matchday 9.

When asked about Heidenheim, Thomas Tuchel commented, “They are very flexible, react to the opponent and adapt their formation. They are very hard-working and have worked their way up to the Bundesliga. It’s another difficult game for us under new circumstances after two mentally difficult games."
Team News

Matthijs de Ligt and Tarek Buchmann are out for the foreseeable future. Leon Goretzka, Dayot Upamecano and Raphaël Guerreiro are questionable, but there's a decent likelihood all will be in the squad. Bayern are trying to extend the contracts of Sven Ulreich and Jamal Musiala, who will be out with a hamstring injury until after the international break.

Heidenheim

Two late goals earned Heidenheim a huge win against Stuttgart last weekend to move up to 13th place. They’ve collected 10 points so far in as many games and are looking like strong contenders to stay up under Frank Schmidt.

It’s a daunting task this weekend away to the Bavarians, as Heidenheim will be relying on Jan-Niklas Beste, Tim Kleindienst, and Eren Dinkçi to keep them close. FCH have only played Bayern once back in 2019, narrowly losing 5-4 in a wild DFB-Pokal affair.

Recently, Schmidt said, “You can also see how many games (Bayern) win, what quality they have. We have to be the best possible version of ourselves. Then let's have a look."
