Selke responds as Köln battle for parity in Bochum

This weekend's Bundesliga Top-Spiel pitted Bochum against FC Köln. Separated by 3 points before kickoff, both teams fought hard but the standings would remain unchanged as the full-time score read 1-1.
It was Köln who started brighter under the floodlit Ruhrstadion lights as Davie Selke cut a threatening figure. Linton Maina could be simultaneously found working hard down the left early on. Meanwhile, Kwarteng spurned Bochum's best chance in the 23rd minute as Schwäbe smothered.

However Köln's shot-stopper could do little to prevent Bochum taking a 1-0 lead on 25 minutes - having denied Hofmann, the rebound broke to Daschner for his maiden Bundesliga goal.

Not long after the interval Asano missed good opportunity to double the host's lead, but it was Die Geißböcke who drew level in the 53rd minute. Maina exploited space on the left and picked out Selke to slot between Riemann's legs. The pendulum seems to swing in Köln's favour as substitute Thielmann came close to beating Riemann again.

An enticing freekick on the 18-yard box edge lit up the eyes of Kevin Stöger, but the Austrian would be denied by Schwäbe. At the other end, Selke failed to beat Riemann from an acute angle in the 76th minute. Despite both teams giving it their all, neither could find that crucial match-winner in a thrilling game.
