Niclas Füllkrug caused a bit of a stir after Borussia Dortmund's 2-1 defeat to VfB Stuttgart on Saturday when he suggested that the Black and Yellows perhaps "didn't have the perfect approach" to the game.

This could be interpreted as direct criticism of Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic, who responded by saying that his team had just proved that they can "do things differently" by beating Newcastle with the same lineup.

Now with the German national team, Füllkrug was asked about his controversial comments at a press conference on Tuesday.

"This is something fundamental. I spoke to the coach and made it clear to him that it wasn't my intention to criticize him at all," Füllkrug told reporters, adding:

"We expected VfB Stuttgart to play differently. But it's not up to me to criticize the coach. I would never do that. That's why I'm happy to have the opportunity to make this clear.

"The coach changed tactics twice during the game in Stuttgart, but we weren't able to implement it on the pitch," said the striker.
