Sport Bild Report: Schreuder and Raúl candidates to work Union bench

Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that former TSG 1899 Hoffenheim trainer Alfred Schreuder and former Schalke star Raúl are among the candidates for 1. FC Union Berlin's vacant head-coaching position.
With some names firmly scratched off the list, Germany's main sporting tabloid reports that 1. FC Union Berlin are considering a pair of candidates for the head-coaching position vacated by Urs Fischer over the international break. Former TSG 1899 Hoffenheim trainer Alfred Schreuder and former Schalke star Raúl are, according to "Sport Bild", on the short-list of FCU managing director Oliver Ruhnert and his administrative team.

Schreuder was sacked as the head-coach of Hoffenheim at the end of the 2019/20 season despite leading die Kraichgauer to an Europa League berth. Since then, the 51-year-old Dutchman has worked as an assistant at Barcelona, coached Belgium's Club Brugge, and spent 18 months coaching Ajax in his native Holland. Most recently, Schreuder was in charge of Al Ain in the U.A.E. for a six-month-stint.

Raúl hasn't accrued and direct coaching experience since concluding his professional career in 2015, yet has worked with the Royal Spanish Football Federation as an assistant and gained experience in the Real Madrid youth system. Current Leverkusen trainer Xabi Alonso, like his Spanish compatriot, also never coached a club at senior level before being placed in charge of the current league leaders.
