Aside from Eren Dinkci’s effort inside two minutes, chances were few and far between in the opening half. The visitors’ best attack fell 9th minute when Stoeger put Asano in behind. However, Heidenheim skipper Maina was on hand to shrug the Japanese international off the ball.

Although Jan-Nicklas Beste started to grow into the half, it was Bochum’s talisman Stoeger who blasted one final effort over Kevin Muller’s crossbar before the break.

Bochum started stronger after the break with Osterhage’s shot on 53 minutes being repelled by Muller. As the hour mark approached Kleindienst would be denied by Riemann. Muller was called into action once again by Bochum’s marauding full-back Bernardo.

Coach Schmidt looked to his bench for the final ten minutes as he introduced Pieringer and Pick. Kleindienst had a final opportunity to take all three points when Erhan Masovic coughed up possession. However, the striker fired over the bar which ensured the points would be shared.
