Already having to contend with the loss of several key players, SV Darmstadt 98 trainer Torsten Lieberknecht will also have to do without the only striker on his roster who has managed to score a goal this season. At his post-match presser on Saturday afternoon, Lieberknecht confirmed that Swedish international Oscar Vilhelmsson was not in the lineup against Wolfsburg after tearing a muscle fiber in training.

Lieberknecht also had to do without Vilhelmsson's fellow top axis attacker Aaron Seydel due to less serious muscle problems. As a result Tim Skarke and Matthias Honsak had to start ahead of false-nine Luca Pfeiffer. Despite being gifted a man-advantage, the Lillies were unable to score against Wolfsburg on Saturday and incurred their tenth league loss of the season.

Darmstadt now sit in last place in the Bundesliga table ahead of a Tuesday meeting with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the final round of league action before the winter break. The nature of Vilhelmsson's injury means that the 20-year-old will not be an option for the next league fixture. The status of Seydel ahead of the next match remains unclear.
