Union require immediate assistance for their attacking corps. Strikers Kevin Behrens, Sheraldo Becker, David Datro Fofana, Mikkel Kaufmann, and Kevin Volland have only scored a combined total of eight league goals. Union have long been rumored to wish to cash in on Becker, who has seen his production numbers with the club steadily decline.
Eintracht Frankfurt are said to be interested in purchasing Becker. Germany's main sporting tabloid now reports that VfL Bochum - having seen young striker Benedict Hollerbach begin to enjoy some success under new trainer Nenad Bjelica - have inquired about a short-term loan-arrangement for the 22-year-old. Whether or not Hollerbach is considered expendable at all by Bjelica and the new coaching regime remains questionable.
Matters could nevertheless shift if die Eisernen could acquire a talent such as Martinez and perhaps convince Bochum to build a serviceable loan-fee into the contract. Union's top priority in the new calendar year will be pulling themselves out of the relegation race. One expects quite a bit of personnel reshuffling from managing director Oliver Ruhnert and the FCU front office in any case.
