Köln's Limnios set for return to Greece, Kicker reports

Germany's preeminent footballing publication reports that 1. FC Köln's Dimitrios Limnios in on the verge of returning to his native country.
Unable to sign any new players during the current or three subsequent transfer windows, relegation-threatened Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln appear set to have their first major departure confirmed within the first few hours of the transfer window being opened. Germany's Kicker Magazine reports that Greek winger Dimitiros Limnios is headed back to his native land. The 25-year-old's former club of PAOK Saloniki and Panathinaikos Athens are listed as interested parties.

Limnios joined Germany's cathedral city side on a reported €3.5 million transfer in the summer of 2020. Injuries and form issues led to him only making 14 top flight appearances for die Geißböcke He spent one season on loan with FC Twente in the Erdevisie. Hopes for a return to the good graces of Köln trainer Steffen Baumgart were high at this time last year, but the 24-times capped international only made two brief relief appearances last spring.

He hasn't progressed beyond the reserves this year. Köln will certainly not place any obstacles in Limnios' way, but likely won't be able to retain much hope of recouping some of their investment. The player's estimated market worth has sunk to €900,000 in the latest transfermarkt update. His current contract with Germany's Effzeh is set to expire at the end of the current season.
