Streich dissatisfied with 500-point milestone: "That should have been 502 points today."

SC Freiburg trainer Christian Streich reached an major milestone with Saturday's 0-0 draw against Union Berlin. With the point earned at home, the Breisguauer gaffer joins the elite ranks of Otto Rehhagel, Thomas Schaaf, Udo Lattek, Hennes Weisweiler, Jupp Heynckes, and Ottmar Hitzfeld.

Only seven Bundesliga coaches have earned 500 league points with a single club. Naturally, the result meant that Streich wasn't terribly satisfied with his new record. Both Streich and SCF skipper Vincenzo Grifo agreed that they should have won the match.

Even if the point earned against visiting 1. FC Union Berlin put SC Freiburg trainer Christian Streich in elite company, the SCF gaffer wasn't satisfied with the fact that he entered the pantheon of Bundesliga trainers with 500 points earned for a single club. Streich had larger ambitions than joining the ranks of Otto Rehhagel, Thomas Schaaf, Udo Lattek, Hennes Weisweiler, Jupp Heynckes, and Ottmar Hitzfeld.

"It should have been 502 points today," Streich told his post-match interviewer, "but instead its only 500. Shit! We needed to score a goal. You can win a game like that 1-0 and then all is well."

Streich's squad captain concurred.

"We should have won 2-0 or 3-0," Grifo told the Sky mics, "We were clearly the better team, had far more possession, and had far more chances to score."

Grifo saw an excellent headed-opportunity saved by FCU keeper Fredrik Rønnow. Roland Sallai also missed an excellent opportunity while Freiburg striker Michael Gregoritsch deflected a Grifo effort destined for the back of the net. Grifo's comments made clear that he kept a careful catalog of all those opportunities.

Streich's milestone does have an asterisk next two it. On two occasions - once during COVID - Streich found himself unable coach his team directly from the touchline. The legendary German football trainer's only technically collected 496 points with Freiburg while working the dugout. Assistant Lars Voßler collected the remained four.
