After a disappointing performance in Saturday's 1-1 draw with VfL Wolfsburg, Borussia Dortmund will be determined to show a different face when they face PSV in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday night.

In general, though, BVB can take confidence from the fact that they have been in great form since the turn of the year, winning four and drawing two in 2024.

"In certain phases, there were certain situations that we wanted to solve a little too arrogantly," goalkeeper Gregor Kobel said at the pre-match press conference on Monday, looking back on the Wolfsburg game.

"But we've made good progress over the course of the season, and we want to show more of that."

PSV are enjoying a great season and sit at the top of the Dutch Eredivisie, 10 points ahead of Feyenoord.

And their head coach Peter Bosz, who spent around six months at Borussia Dortmund in 2017 before being sacked, is fired up to knock out his former employer.

"It's an opponent I have a lot of respect for, and that's why I want to beat them very badly. We know where we can hurt them and what we have to watch out for," Bosz said at his pre-match press conference.

"Fortunately, we have already gained experience against opponents of this level in the group stage. The away game against Arsenal was very important. We were able to measure ourselves against one of the best teams in the world. We learned a lot from that."

On the personnel front, Guus Til is a doubt for PSV. Dortkmund will be without Sebastien Haller, Ramy Bensebaini, Karim Adeyemi and Felix Nmecha, but Donyell Malen could be back in action.

"Donny felt much better this morning and also yesterday. We'll get him on the pitch straight away and hopefully he won't have any more problems. We are very optimistic at the moment," said BVB coach Edin Terzic on Monday.
