Werder Bremen have been rocked by the news that Niklas Stark will be sidelined for a long period of time.

The Green-Whites have confirmed that the centre-back will be sidelined for several weeks after suffering an ankle ligament injury in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

“This is really bad news for us, but of course also for Starki, who’s only recently come back from injury and had a good game against Dortmund. He will begin rehab imminently and we hope he will be available for selection by the end of April,” said Werder Bremen's head of professional football, Clemens Fritz.

Stark has scored two goals in 15 appearances for Werder this season.
