Kovac explains decision to take Wind off early

Niko Kovac said he felt "forced" to take off Jonas Wind when Moritz Jenz was sent off in the first half of Wolfsburg's loss to Bayer Leverkusen.
VfL Wolfsburg were reduced to 10 men when Moritz Jenz was shown a second yellow card in the 28th minute of Sunday's 2-0 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen.

Wolfsburg coach Niko Kovac reacted by taking off Jonas Wind and replacing him with center back Sebastiaan Bornauw, a decision that clearly didn't go down well with the striker.

However, as Kovac explained, he felt "forced" to make the change.

"Playing with four men at the back is difficult in Leverkusen because they always try to play five against four in the back line. That means we had to play a central defender," Kovac said in a post-match interview.

"I didn't fabricate the red card and had to react as a coach. That he had to come off is not so bad. He'll play in the next game anyway."
