Wolfsburg confirm Hasenhüttl as new head-coach

VfL Wolfsburg have officially confirmed the hiring of former Southampton trainer Ralph Hasenhüttl as the club's new head-coach. 
Ralph Hasenhüttl will officially take over for the sacked Niko Kovac as VfL Wolfsburg's new trainer. The 58-year-old Austrian returns to the Bundesliga nearly six years after he left RB Leipzig in May of 2018. The former FC Köln and SpVgg Greuther Fürth professional last worked a professional footballing touchline for Southampton FC in the English Premiership.

He left the Saints in November of 2022 some six months before the Hampshire club were relegated from the English top division. Following his departure from the Isle after a tenure of nearly four years, he has not held a job since. Hasenhüttl also coached VfR Aalen and SpVgg Unterhaching in the German lower divisions. He once brought FC Ingolstadt 04 to the German top flight.

Wolfsburg confirmed Hasenhüttl's appointment early Sunday evening, noting only the the new trainer had "signed a long term contract". The man tasked with helping Germany's green company team avoid relegation is scheduled for a formal introduction in the northern Autostadt at noon tomorrow. Hassenhüttl will lead his first team training session on Tuesday.
