Vilhelmsson's late strike cements parity between Darmstadt and Bochum
Putting the seal on Bundesliga Matchday 27 was the enticing clash of VfL Bochum and Darmstadt. With relegation fears to allay for both sides, it culminated in a close fought and dramatic game that ended 2-2.
The hosts took to the familiar settings of their Vonovia Ruhrstadion home like a duck to water this evening. Half chances fell to Osterhage from range and Passlack met the side netting moments later.
Bochum eventually took a 1-0 lead on the stroke of the half hour. A Kevin Stöger corner found Philipp Hofmann whose initial attempt met Schuhen. The towering VfL striker reacted quickest to the loose ball however, duly prodding past the Darmstadt keeper at the second time of asking.
Hofmann made it a brace inside three second half minutes after some slack play from Holtmann allowed Keven Schlotterbeck in behind to feed his teammate. Darmstadt heads didn't drop and they rallied to halve the deficit in the 62nd minute. Schuhen's save on Antwi-Adjej ignited the move, allowing Justvan to threat a pass for Starke. Die Lillien's top scorer casually rolled the ball past Riemann to the bottom right corner.
With a just under 15 minutes to play, Torsten Lieberknecht's side pulled level at 2-2 via the boot of Oscar Vilhelmsson. The Sweet played in by Justvan fired from an acute angle. Riemann was in a prime position but his attempted save ricocheted into the net. The result means Bochum remain six points clear of the relegation places while Darmstadt stay rooted to the Bundesliga basement.
